Alina Halloran Design Wins ASID 2018 Design Excellence Awards

I'm thrilled to announce that Alina Halloran Design was awarded two  -  yes two! - prestigious American Society of Interior Design (ASID) Silver Awards at the 2018 Design Excellence Awards for the California Peninsula Chapter held in Palo Alto over the weekend.

The Silver Awards were for Emerging Professional Residential Contemporary Kitchen Design and Emerging Professional Transitional Single Family Residence Over 3000 Sq. Ft.

Both of these projects (see below for photos and project descriptions) were a joy to work on, with fabulous clients that made working through the design process and creating their beautiful homes together, a pleasure.

ASID is a national organization that strives to advance the interior design profession and demonstrate the power of design to positively change people's lives. To be recognized by the ASID for these projects, based on rigorous design criteria is truly an honor.

A young family moving into a new build Craftsman style home required livable, functional and stylish interior furnishings to compliment their active and social lives.

Alina Halloran Design had the opportunity to develop a unified design, color palette and purposeful layout that worked throughout the open plan ground floor, and the upstairs bedrooms and office.

With a passion for entertaining, the layout needed to maximize seating and dining and the owners wanted to inject elements of interest alongside more functional pieces.

Hand crafted furniture and custom artwork sit alongside familiar brands creating a mixture of high/low that is workable for the way they live their lives.

Taking cues from the architectural style of the home while maintaining a sense of modern clean lines, the design for the ground floor includes a neutral palette offset with soft hues of blue and yellow and incorporating mixed metal accents, geometric patterns and subtle ocean themes.

A young family wanted improved functionality and performance in their kitchen. They frequently entertain large groups and have family visiting for extended periods of time. The family cooks every day and wanted professional style appliances and adequate ventilation for this open plan kitchen.

They asked for unique elements to be included in the design, light wood and or/white cabinets, metal (industrial), additional and better functioning lighting and a modern clean design that would reduce visual clutter.

Creative solutions such as recessed channel lighting, LED lit shelving in the bar with tunable light and dual height counters provided interesting design solutions.  The use of products such as sintered surfaces, blackened steel, glass and acrylic transformed the kitchen into a hardworking and modern space.

The contemporary design incorporates clean lines and hidden appliances with metal accents in a thoughtfully laid out design which lightens and opens up the space while providing improved work flow.
