So, I cannot believe it's taken me this long to discover LuAnn Nigara! If you haven't heard about LuAnn as yet, she is a dynamo business woman based out of New Jersey and the creator of A Well Designed Business® podcast that explores the world of interior design.
Having run a successful Window-Works business for more than 30 years, LuAnn has an understanding of what it takes to run a small business and having worked alongside interior designers on their projects, an in-depth knowledge of the industry.
LuAnn started interviewing key players in 2016, talking with her guests about their path to success, particularly looking at their business processes, planning and strategy. Familiar names include interior designers Barbara Ostrom, Elizabeth Lamont, Stacy Garcia, Sandra Funk Levy as well as specialists in the field of color, writing, business coaching and so forth.
I have become obsessed with these podcasts and am so inspired by the incredible individuals LuAnn interviews, who share their stories of how they got to where they are today. Every episode is unique with lessons to be learned about how to do things differently, or better and offering practical tips on how to find your own path to success.

Being the type of person I am, I had to start from the very first episode and have been working my way through the first 20 or so episodes over the past few weeks. There is so much useful information, that I have ended up listening to most of them for a second time and have found something new to take note of each time!
Topics include setting up an online platform, getting published in shelter magazine, writing a bio that sells your business and who you are, having a niche to define your business from others, marketing in a digital world...the list is endless.
LuAnn's approach is that it is a given that designers are talented in what they do, creating beautiful and functional spaces, but what sets us apart is how we conduct our business. Process, drive, consistency and creativity work hand in hand to move a business forward.
It couldn't have come at a better time, as I have made it a priority for 2018 to refocus my energy on the business practices of Alina Halloran Design and plan out goals for the coming years. Knowing where you want to be down the line helps to give your business a sense of focus and direction.
I have been so thankful for the many wonderful clients I have worked with and the early years of the Alina Halloran Design have been an amazing journey. It has been a huge effort creating a second career post corporate life and children. Setting up a business and studying in tandem has been no easy feat. It's encouraging to hear others' stories and to be able to learn from their shared experiences.
